About the Foundation

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up to inspire and motivate young people and recognise them for their achievements.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up by Sir Jack Petchey CBE to inspire and celebrate young people. Since 1999, over £170 million has been invested in programmes to benefit young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex.

The Foundation has invested over £170 million in young people across London and Essex

We support many programmes, from sport to science, art to internships, vlogging to volunteering. We encourage every young person to get involved and try something new.

Our major programme is the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme, which is run in over 1,400 youth clubs, youth organisations and secondary schools across London and Essex.

Our other programmes include Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge, the world’s largest public speaking competition for young people; and Step into Dance, the UK’s biggest inclusive dance programme for secondary school students.

In order to achieve Sir Jack’s mission to enable young people to achieve their potential, every few years we develop a new set of strategic aims for the next three years. To download and read our Strategic Aims for 2025-2027 click the image below.

A future where every young person is celebrated and realises their potential.

To provide opportunities for young people across London & Essex to build their skills, their confidence and their voice, so they can fulfil their potential and have a positive impact on society.

The Jack Petchey Foundation draws on the ideology, vision and values of its patron, Sir Jack Petchey CBE, who epitomised the saying “If you think you can, you can!”

We seek to:

  • inspire and raise the aspirations of young people
  • affirm, reward and celebrate achievement
  • value young people and those who work with them, advocating their views and putting young peoples’ voice at the centre of our work
  • develop young peoples’ confidence, motivating them to take on new challenges and to believe in themselves
  • be positive and promote a positive perspective on life
  • be inclusive, working at grass roots and building communities
  • promote a culture of ‘giving something back’
  • strive for excellence in our work

In order to achieve our mission we have developed ambitious three year strategic aims for 2025-27:

Increase impact

  • Objective: We will invest more in what we know works and has a significant positive impact on young people.

Maximise reach

  • Objective: We will reach more young people who do not currently benefit from our programmes, prioritising outreach to areas and groups with the greatest need

Streamline processes

  • Objective: We will work in an agile way, making continuous improvements to improve our efficiency, improve grantee experience and use JPF resources as effectively as possible in order to benefit more YP

Maintain our appeal & address changing needs

  • Objective: Young people and organisations will engage with JPF programmes and opportunities and we will use data, research and youth voice to inform our work.

Harness the potential of our network

  • Objective: We will amplify youth voices, connect the youth sector and use our data to influence decision-makers and contribute positively to society.
