From the Archive: The Jack Petchey Foundation 10th Anniversary

As part of the 25th birthday celebrations of the Jack Petchey Foundation, the Foundation is creating an archive of all things Sir Jack Petchey! This includes photographs, diaries, publications, certificates, and many more relating to his businesses, the charity, and Sir Jack’s personal life. My name is Katy, and I am the archivist with the fascinating job of delving into the life of Sir Jack Petchey.

On the first of every month throughout 2024, I will be offering a glimpse into that archive through a series of blogs. I’ll be picking out some of the key artefacts that tell the story of Sir Jack and the Foundation. Join us for that journey.

In this blog, we are looking at how the Jack Petchey Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary, including the official booklet, as well some of the well wishes from some very notable people.

Context of Objects

Reaching the 10th anniversary of the formation of the Jack Petchey Foundation was a big achievement, and one that everyone wanted to recognise… and not only those within the Foundation.

The Foundation received letters of congratulations from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, and the Prime Minister at the time, Gordon Brown. These well wishes, alongside several others, were included in the 10th anniversary booklet.

Relevance to the Foundation

While the Foundation is brilliant at celebrating the achievements of others, they don’t always celebrate their own. These congratulatory letters enabled the Foundation to also recognise and celebrate their own achievements and their impact on young people. In the first ten years, the Foundation celebrated th emielstone of giving out 70,000 Achievement Award winners from across 2,000 schools and clubs; over this time they’d also invested over £65 million to support young people.

Achievement Award winner Ayesha Fihosy expressed that the “award helped me believe in myself, but it has also made me eager to achieve more in my life”.

These statistics and kind messages, whether they are from royalty, patrons, or young people, demonstrate the scale of the impact that the Jack Petchey Foundation had and continues to make.
