From the Archive: The Jack Petchey Foundation 15th Anniversary

As part of the 25th birthday celebrations of the Jack Petchey Foundation, the Foundation is creating an archive of all things Sir Jack Petchey! This includes photographs, diaries, publications, certificates, and many more relating to his businesses, the charity, and Sir Jack’s personal life. My name is Katy, and I am the archivist with the fascinating job of delving into the life of Sir Jack Petchey.

On the first of every month throughout 2024, I will be offering a glimpse into that archive through a series of blogs. I’ll be picking out some of the key artefacts that tell the story of Sir Jack and the Foundation. Join us for that journey!

This month, we will be looking at how the Jack Petchey Foundation celebrated its 15th Anniversary. This includes the official souvenir brochure that was made for a celebration event.

Context of Objects:

The 15th Anniversary of the Jack Petchey Foundation was a big achievement, with the event featuring fantastic performances by Jack Petchey Glee Club Challenge Champions for 2013, past Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge Regional Champions, Step into Dance groups, You London Uniform Band and more!

The Foundation event received a letter of congratulations from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This message of support celebrating the Foundation’s 15th Anniversary, along with several others, including the Mayor of London at the time and ourpatron, Tim Campbell MBE, were included in the official souvenir brochure.

Relevance to the Foundation

These congratulatory letters enabled the Foundation to also recognise and celebrate their own achievements and their impact on young people. In the first fifteen years, the Foundation had celebrated and recognised almost 150,000 young people with Achievement Awards and invested over £100 million in young people across London and Essex through grants and partnership programmes.

These statistics and kind messages, whether they are from royalty, or patrons, demonstrate the scale of the impact that the Jack Petchey Foundation had and continues to make.
