Hello, my name is Logan and I am a 12 year old from London.
I recently was nominated by Wellgate Community Farm and won the Jack Petchey Environmental Award. Lesley, the Co- Manager at Wellgate Community Farm, and the young farmers arranged a community litter picking day and the day finished with cake. The plan is for it to be a regular community event.
I am interested in farming/agriculture and I love animals. That’s why I am a young farmer at Wellgate Community Farm. Many people would call it a hobby but for me it is more of a passion. I also participate in scouting which I attend every week. I have learnt an astounding amount of skills from this. I really love nature and wildlife and have done so since I was very young. I particularly like bugs, my favourite bug being the hornet (as long as they do not sting me!).
The environment and sustainability is a great concern for me and I worry about the future and how the Earth is going to be for my generation and beyond. I am also a trading card collector and enjoy, dungeons and dragons, Pokémon cards, yu-gi-oh and a selection of other card and video games. I also love to read my favourite book which is Ready Player One by Ernist Cline.
I have done a couple of charity events, examples of some of these was when I was 10, I did a sponsored climb up Snowdon which raised £160 for Battersea Cats and Dogs Home.
But my greatest achievement was an afternoon tea which was fundraising for the homeless charity Crisis. I did this with my friend Jacob. It was a long planning process but it was worth it because overall me and Jacob raised £500 which will have helped a lot of people get off the streets. I also help in the local soup kitchen at half-terms.
My future plan is to use the money given to me by the Jack Petchey Foundation to improve Wellgate’s environmental sustainability. I want to install bird boxes because in the winter we have a very rich robin population. I believe that installing a bird box or two would really make a difference. I would then like to install more wildflower beds around the farm to help the pollinators in the summer.
I would like to plan a charity walk along The West Highland Railway with my dad to raise money for Great Ormond Street hospital, as my mum has severe arthritis and she spent a lot of her childhood in Great Ormond Street Hospital.
