Adreen, a student at The Ursuline Academy Ilford has accomplished what so many of us only dream about – she has recently published a bestselling novel! ‘The Heartbreaker’s Dare’ spans over 700 pages and Adreen was a Year 9 student at the time of writing! The novel deals with teenage experiences and the angst of coming of age. Adreen’s topics of focus do not shy away from subjects such as coping with mental health issues among young people but rather deals with them in a realistic and sympathetic way.
Adreen feels that; “Being an award winner of Jack Petchey has been truly motivating, it reminds me, once again, that if I know I can achieve my goals it will manifest before my eyes within seconds. Self-motivation is the key to everything!”
Further to this Adreen also admits that writing was her way of dealing with some insecurities and worries of her own. Despite being just 15, she is not the first author to describe how writing is very therapeutic to her for a variety of reasons.
Her school commented that ‘this is an immense achievement for Adreen which she has accomplished through sheer perseverance and determination without help from anyone’.
Adreen has spent her £250 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant on a wide selection of board games for her school to benefit her peers and promote various skills.
